Summary of the Charges 

The Prosecutor General brought two separate cases against the Defendant, in which the defendants are accused of preparing and conspiring to commit a terrorist act in violation of Article 4 of the Anti-terrorism Proclamation No. 652/2009.

Specific cases brought against each of the defendants

The 1st defendant is accused of, inter alia:

  • Being a member of a designated terrorist organization, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF),
  • Facilitating recruitment of new members to OLF,
  • Plotting assassination of government officials and assigned duty to subordinates,
  • Searching for a depot to store materials for the OLF including ammunitions and hand grenades.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants, after recruited as a member of a designated terrorist organization, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF):

  • They prepare and conspire to assassinate government officials,
  • All the defendants, together, plans and prepares to join the groups’ military camp in Kenya,
  • They plan to clutch ammunitions from security officials and plotted a terrorist act.

  3. 6 pages confession statement provided to the Police as per Article 27 (2) of Ethiopia’s Criminal Procedural Code – by the 2nd
  4. 6 pages confession statement provided to the Police as per Article 27 (2) of Ethiopia’s Criminal Procedural Code – by the 3rd
  5. 6 pages confession statement provided to the Police as per Article 27 (2) of Ethiopia’s Criminal Procedural Code – by the 4th
  1. Exhibits:

The Prosecutor General brought 4 mobile phone apparatuses, 7 SIM-cards, and 2 SD-cards seized from the defendants upon search as an exhibit.
